When I remember – The first exhibition on Mario Schifano in Germany

The first museum exhibition outside Italy dedicated to the great artist Mario Schifano, among the leading exponents of Italian art in the second half of the 20th century, opens at the SCHAUWERK Sindelfingen Museum. The selection of works is fascinating. The SCHAUWERK Sindelfingen Museum, the Mario Schifano Archive and the Marconi Foundation have collaborated to bring together more than 80 outstanding works by the Roman master.

This retrospective focuses on works related to the Pop Art season and traces the artist’s techniques and expressions from the 1960s to the early 1990s. The works depict social and historical events, with themes such as the Gulf War and a particular reference to technology, especially television, which is one of the main themes of this retrospective well represented by the iconic emulsified canvases otherwise known as “televisions.” Looking through the works one notices presences of his personal memories and experiences, such as his experience in New York and the influence of Pop Art artists.

The exhibition opens on October 19, 2025 and continues through June 21, 2026.
