Metamorphosis. A personal exhibition of Bertozzi & Casoni at the Museo di Capodimonte

Until April 26, the Museo e Real Bosco di Capodimonte in Naples will host the extraordinary exhibition “Bertozzi & Casoni. Metamorphosis,” curated by Eike Schmidt and Diego Galizzi. The exhibition features approximately twenty works, including loans from private collections and new pieces created specifically for this show. Highlights include Rocco (2025), which opens the exhibition path in the Pompeian Room, and Fenicottero degli stracci (Flamingo of the Rags, 2025).

The entire exhibition revolves around the concept of metamorphosis: not only as a transformation of subjects but as a physical mutation of the medium itself. Ceramic, when subjected to high temperatures, undergoes multiple changes to ultimately achieve surprising results. These surreal and ironic works blend perfectly with the furnishings and masterpieces of the Historic Apartments, prompting visitors to reconsider modern porcelain as a profound medium of contemporary art.

A statement from the director Eike Schmidt

“With this highly original journey through the Royal Apartments, we celebrate the extraordinary bond between Bertozzi & Casoni and the Capodimonte Museum. Their international artistic career finds its roots right here in 1980, inspired by a trip to Naples and a visit to the famous Civiltà del Settecento exhibition. It is fitting that these two brilliant artists, trained in the renowned Faenza school, have spent over 40 years fulfilling a mission suggested to them by Naples and its porcelain history: returning ceramic sculpture to the center of the contemporary art scene with its full dignity and technical complexity. Naples and its Royal Factory of Capodimonte thus meet Faenza in this ‘Metamorphosis’—an exhibition that will amaze and stimulate the imagination of our visitors, as only true art can.”
