Twenty-eight years after its first appearance, the art of Jannis Kounellis returns to dialogue with the wounded spaces of Kyiv through a project of profound civic significance. From June 15 to September 1, 2025, the historic installation Untitled (1997/2025) is once again on display within the Baroque nave of the Kyiv-Mohyla Academy, one of the symbolic landmarks of Ukrainian culture and intellectual resistance.
This operation is part of Faktura 10, an initiative by the RIBBON International platform aimed at reactivating historical memory through the language of contemporary art. The exhibition is curated by Marta Kuzma, who also curated the original 1997 edition, ensuring a philological and conceptual continuity that links the past to the country’s dramatic present.
The work, composed of primary and industrial elements typical of Arte Povera, takes on a new layer of meaning today. In their silent rigor, the materials resonate with the Academy’s Baroque architecture, transforming the installation into a stronghold of cultural identity. In a context marked by conflict, the return of Kounellis represents not only a tribute to one of the masters of the 20th century but a reaffirmation of art’s capacity to persist and bear witness.
