Emilio Isgrò is the artist of the year 2024 for the Galleria Nazionale d’Arte Moderna in Rome. As is also the practice in other international museums, with the new management of Director Cristina Mazzantini, the museum nominates a representative artist as the most important of the year every year by organizing a series of meetings and dedicating a room to him with a selection of his works.
The initiative is in collaboration with the Emilio Isgrò Archive and the sponsors Intesa Sanpaolo and Techbau. One of the major Italian artists, already celebrated at the Galleria Nazionale in 2013 with an anthological exhibition, is chosen for 2024 on the occasion of the sixtieth anniversary of his famous “erasure”, his stylistic and identity signature. Isgrò paid homage to the National Gallery by creating the work “Isgrò cancella Isgrò”, with the cancellation of several copies of the book “Autocurriculum”, his autobiography.
The work has become part of the collection of the National Gallery.
