Born in Pécs in 1906, Vasarely initially began his studies in medicine; it was this scientific discipline that eventually shaped his creative approach. His true apprenticeship took place at the Műhely in Budapest—the “Hungarian Bauhaus”—where he realized that form, color, and space are technical tools used to generate specific psychological and physiological responses.
