  • Giuseppe Capogrossi was born in Rome in 1900. He graduated in Law and studied painting with Felice Carena in 1923-24. He was present in 1930 at the XVII Venice Biennale while three years later in Milan he exhibited in the "Group of new Roman painters" at the Galleria del Milione. In 1946 his first solo exhibition opened at the San Marco Gallery. In 1948 he was again present at the XXIV Venice Biennale while in 1950 in Rome he presented his new abstract production at the Galleria del Secolo.

    The iconic "forks" are born, an element made up of a sum of signs, which is constantly repeated and which becomes a sort of language of the artist. In 1951 he founded the “Gruppo Origine” together with Ballocco, Burri and Colla. In 1955 he participated in “Documenta I” in Kassel and in the III Biennial of Sao Paulo, Brazil.
