Davide Benati was born in Reggio Emilia on 23 february 1949, he studies at the Accademia di Brera in Milano. The first solo exhibition is in 1972 at the Gallleria Il Giorno in Milan. In the seventies he has already many exhibitions in his curriculum, these are years of intense researches and experimets in his paintings. In 1982 he is invited to the Venice Biennale and again in 1990 with a personal exhibition.

In 1986 he is invited to the Rome's Quadriennale. There is also a long list of important group exhibition in which he exposed his paitings such as "Anniottanta" in Bologna, the third international Tiennale at the Kunstalle Nurnberg in 1985, ''Dopo il concettuale'' in Trento and ''Itinerari di arte contemporanea'' in Lisbona in 1986.
