Carla Accardi was born the 9th October 1924 in Trapani, Italy. After the classes in the Accademia delle Belle Arti in Palermo and Florence, she moved in Rome where she married the painter Antonio Sanfilippo. In 9147 she formed the “Forma 1” group with the other roman artists Attardi, Consagra, Dorazio, Guerrini, Perilli, Sanfilippo e Turcato. In the 50’s she worked on developing the the paiting on the white and black colours working with forms and signs and she will have different personal exhibitions in Italy and outside. She participated to more Biennale di Venezia, expecially in 1964 and 1968 where she had a personal exhibition. In 1994 she was included in the exhibition at the Guggenheim Museum of New York titled “The Italian Metamorphosis”. Her works are in the Guggenheim Collection in Venice, Galleria Nazionale d’Arte Moderna in Rome, Museo d’Arte Contemporanea del Castello di Rivoli, Gallerie Civiche in Modena and Bologna, Palazzo Reale in Milano, MAMbo in Bologna and MACRO in Rome. She passed away in Rome on the 25th february 2014.
